Meet Dr. Kaswinkel

Dr. Daryl D. Kaswinkel is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in the medical and surgical treatment of the eye. He is a fellowship-trained specialist in cornea and external disease, refractive surgery, and uveitis. Dr. Kaswinkel's extensive corneal experience includes challenging anterior segment reconstruction cases and corneal transplantation (PKP/PK) utilizing advanced techniques of targeted corneal tissue transplantation (DSEK and DALK).

He has been involved in the research, investigation, and development of almost every laser used in laser vision correction (LVC) (Custom LVC, LASIK, PRK), including excimer, solid state, and lasers (all-laser LVC). For those patients who are not suitable LVC candidates, he is experienced in the use of implantable contact lenses (ICL), a very powerful option to correct refractive disorders.

Dr. Kaswinkel performs small-incision, no-stitch, rapid rehabilitation cataract surgery using advanced intraocular lens designs.

He has extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of dry eye syndrome, a very common and debilitating eye condition. In addition, he specializes in the medical and surgical management of glaucoma, including advanced treatment options such as ExPress Shunts, setons, and canaloplasty.

Prior to pursuing his medical career, Dr. Kaswinkel graduated college as a mechanical engineer. While working as a manufacturing engineer, he made contributions to the development of today's advanced military aircraft. Because of his subsequent biomedical engineering exposure, he decided to pursue a career in medicine and to eventually specialize as an ophthalmologist. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the American Medical Association.

Dr. Kaswinkel relocated to Columbus, OH in 2008 to join Drs. Erdey and Searcy after practicing in North Carolina, Tennessee, and Chicago for approximately eleven years. He is honored and committed to providing central Ohio with compassionate, state-of-the-art eye care.

"I have had several visits to the Erdey Searchy Eye Group. The office, restrooms and examining rooms are immaculate. There are controls in place to address the impact of the corona virus. The staff is caring and well informed. Dr. Kasiwinkle treats patients as partners and provides information about treatment plans and prescriptions in a thoughtful and respectful manner. I would recommend this practice to anyone. The nurse manager is quick to return phone calls and ensures that prescriptions and refills are timely and accurate. Because of my immune disorders , I see three other medical practices. I always have to follow up with prescriptions and refills, but never at Erdey Searchy Eye Group. It is helpful to know that the nurse there keeps up with medicines and referrals and I do not have to. I just wish their practice treated more areas than eyes!"

"Knowleable, prompt treatment - Dr. Kaswinkel tremendously helped my husband when a clot in his retina caused loss of sight in one eye.He was knowledgeable and professional.I have no time for reviews harping on doctors chairside manner. Doctor said can have good days and bad days just the same as anyone else. Do you want an extremely competent doctor or do you want a buddy? A doctor with absolutely no bedside manner whatsoever once saved my life. But it was his lack of bedside manner that allowed him to bark at other medical staff and get me attention more promptly..I’ll take skills over bedside manner every single time.Another thing if you’re going to leave a review have the guts to leave your name. A lot of anonymous reviews are posted by the same same person with an axe to grind."
